We have submitted two preprints summarising our sEEG work over the last 5 years. The first, led by François Stockart, describes how evidence accumulation in the mid-fusiform cortex serves perceptual consciousness. The second, led by Dorian Goueytes, describes how post-decisional evidence accumulation in the insula underlies confidence and changes of mind.
Meanwhile, Nathan is a visiting professor at Chapman University (CA, USA) for three months, developing new research lines with Uri Maoz and Aaron Schurger on the scientific study of consciousness. Our study documenting preserved electrophysiological markers of confidence in schizophrenia is now published in Schizophrenia. Congrats to Martin Rouy and team! Details here.
We are also thrilled to announce that Michael Pereira was awarded an ERC Starting Grant, and Dorian Goueytes was awarded a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship. Congratulations! In a replication study led by Martin Rouy, we found that a previous attempt to improve metacognitive performance through feedback is likely impacted by experimental confounds. We address these confounds and discuss alternative ways to improve metacognition. Details here.
We also warmly welcome new lab members: Childéric Dezier, Perrine Porte, and Clément Sauvage join for 5-month internships as part of their Masters at Université Grenoble Alpes. And we are very happy to welcome Marie Chancel as a new postdoctoral scholar in the metAction team!We are delighted to welcome Ramla Msheik and François Stockart as new PhD students, and Dorian Goueytes as postdoctoral scholar. Welcome on board!
We also published a new fMRI study led by Giedre Stripeikyte in collaboration with Olaf Blanke’s lab, showing that the attenuation phenomenon extends beyond sensory events to non-perceptual cognitive processes. Details here.Nathan obtained his accreditation to supervise research (HDR). His defense gives an overview of past, present, and future research.
Our meta-analysis of metacognitive deficits in schizophrenia was accepted in Neuroscience & Biobehavioral Reviews. Congrats to all authors, and specially to Martin Rouy for his first publication! Details here.
Our preprint linking evidence accumulation with perceptual consciousness and monitoring was accepted in Nature Communications. Congrats to Michael Pereira and co-authors! Details here.We are lucky to host 6 new students: warm welcome to Eugénie, Lise, Flore, Hanna, Hugo, Ramla, and Wassila!
Audrey Kist obtained a PhD scholarship from the French government to investigate the subcortical correlates of consciousness in collaboration with Mircea Polosan.
Michael and Martin also presented their work at Neuromatch 3.0.Martin Rouy joins the team as the first of two PhD students funded by the metAction ERC grant. His work will consist in developing new tasks to capture metacognitive deficits in schizophrenia using psychophysics and EEG. Welcome on board!
Together with Elisa Filevich and Christina Koß, we also submitted a new study assessing the influence of action execution on confidence and metacognition. Against our pre-registered hypotheses, results show that decision execution does not influence metacognitive performance. Details here.Together with Jean-Paul Noel and colleagues, we quantified the role of consciousness for multisensory integration. Our results show that the broadcasting of sensory information portends a graded relation between perceptual awareness and multisensory integration. Data and scripts are available at OSF.
We are also happy to announce that Lucien Gyger will be the first full member to join the team in October! He will kickstart the experiments described in the metAction project.
